Centuries beside the river

Bewdley's history has long been shaped by the River Severn. Its position made the town an important crossing point and helped establish it as a centre for trade.

The first bridge at Bewdley was built during the fifteenth century. The present stone bridge was designed by Thomas Telford and completed in 1798.

Georgian buildings, historic streets and the riverside remain an important part of Bewdley's character today.
